Frequently Asked Questions

First off, congratulations and welcome to Iowa State University! We are happy to have you here and happy to help in any way we can. Now, down to business. We have put together a checklist here of some of the most important things to do in regards to your U-Bill.

The U-Bill, short for University Bill, is how Iowa State University will present charges including but not limited to tuition, fees, residence hall, and meal plans to you for payment. The U-Bill is electronic, created on the 1st of each month, and due on the 20th. The Accounts Receivable Office will email your @iastate.edu email address when the bill is available to view.

The U-Bill is your responsibility as it is your name on the account. Information will not be shared with parents or other guardians without your authorization or permission.

Any overpayment, through financial aid or otherwise, is refunded through your chosen student refund method.

Iowa State University cannot send a direct deposit (ACH) transaction to a foreign bank account. If you choose to have your payroll/student refund/travel reimbursement direct deposited and do not have a domestic bank account you may open a free bank account associated with your ISUCard at U.S. Bank*.

Our holds are placed because of a past due balance on your U-Bill. The hold will automatically be removed when your balance is paid in full. If you are unable to pay in full at this time, contact our office and we can discuss options.

Payments can be made by check or online. For full details visit our Payments page.

Please contact the IT Solution Center by phone at 515-294-4000 or by email and they can get you logged back in so you can download your 1098-T.

There are resources available to students about general changes resulting from the transition to Workday available here. There are also how-to guides for accessible to students via KBAs here.

*Iowa State University chose U.S. Bank as its partner to offer students, faculty and staff the option to add banking functionality to the ISU Card. ISU receives financial support from U.S. Bank in the form of marketing funds, royalties, card stock, and other compensation to offset costs otherwise incurred by the school. Students, faculty and staff are not required to open an account with U.S. Bank to receive or use the ISU Card for other campus services. The university partnership with U.S. Bank was formed after a competitive selection process (U.S. Bank and Iowa State University Agreement). Questions about the University’s partnership with U.S. Bank may be directed to the ISUCard Office at 515-294-2727 or by email to idcard@iastate.edu.
