Federal Student Aid Authorization

One of the on-boarding tasks for students in Workday is to authorize aid. This authorization allows Federal financial aid to apply to a wider range of charges on your U-Bill which can help avoid delays in refund processing and refunds with a balance owing.

Without Authorization

If a student were to choose not to accept the aid authorization any Federal financial aid received will only apply to Title IV eligible charges from the corresponding aid term. This means that money from Pell Grants, Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans, Plus Loans, and other Title IV aid can only apply to the following items on the U-Bill: Tuition, Activity & Service Fee, Health Fee, Health Facility Fee, Technology Fee, Housing, and Meal Plans. It will also be restricted to only apply to charges from the specific semester the aid is for.

With Authorization

Once a student accepts the aid authorization any Federal financial aid received will be able to apply to any charge assessed during the semester the aid is for. This includes, but is not limited to: Parking, Athletic, and University Bookstore charges. It also allows up to $200 to be used towards past due charges from the previous semester. This gives the greatest flexibility to Federal financial aid and helps avoid unnecessary refunds.

Some aid may have requirements to pay only specific charges, those limitations are not adjustable.
